Who was Dorothy Fields?

Dorothy Fields (1904-1974) was one of the great Broadway lyricists, who wrote popular songs for revues, films and shows for nearly 50 years.

The hallmarks of her work are a touching simplicity of expression and a gift for matching the rhythms of colloquial speech to music.

She wrote well over 400 songs.
Her best-known standards include :

I Can't Give You Anything But Love • Don't Blame Me
On The Sunny Side Of The Street • A Fine Romance
I'm In The Mood For Love • The Way You Look Tonight
Big Spender • If My Friends Could See Me Now

New CD of Dorothy Fields songs: Somethin' Real Special

PS Classics, the recording company that celebrates "the heritage of Broadway and American popular song" has just released an addition to its tremendous catalogue of recordings: a new CD of Dorothy Fields songs.
