Hello Daddy! was a Fields family project. Not only did Dorothy supply the lyrics – her brother Herbert wrote the book and their father Lew produced and starred in the show. It also played at the Fields Theatre!

The plot concerned three men, each of whom believes he is the father of a certain illegitimate child.

It was the last time Lew Fields appeared on stage, and it was Dorothy's first book musical; it was to be 11 years before she tried her hand at another. The program of musical numbers shows that Max Steiner conducted the orchestra; Dorothy teamed up with him in 1935 to provide a song for the film Alice Adams.

No standards emerged from the score.
